Hi sorry to hijack the thread but im getting one of these tomorrow dune smart hd h1 along with a 1tb hdd is there any guides on setting this upat the moment all of my movies are on a lacie hd drive but i want to transfer them all to the new 1tb and set the dune to run from the new 1tb hdd tooi have also seen that the only music jukebox available is musicnizer and it costs $40 or somethingi was going to buy the popcorn hour a210 as it automatically scans and no need to mess about setting things up. Well it depends - will you ever remove the HDD from the Dune and connect it directly to a PC? If you will (or might do) then I would suggest you format the HDD on a PC to NTFS and then connect it to the Dune.
I suggest this as a PC and the Dune can read/write an NTFS formatted HDD, but the Dune will format it as EXT2 which a PC can't natively work with. So if formatted on the Dune the PC will not be able to read/write to the HDD if connected directly by SATA or USB (fine if connecting over the network though). But if the HDD will only ever be used by the Dune or a PC over the network then you can just format it in the Dune. Ok thanks alot, i think i will format the harddrive in my pcbecause it will make it easier as my family has a few laptops and will be easier to read or transfer any stuffso basically im connecting the harddrive to my pc and format it ntfsthen plugging it into the dune and update the firmware if theres anyif i want to run zippitti of the internal harddrive its self is there anything else ill have to doam i correct it thinking i should structucture the folder likeMovies TV Shows Music ( think im going to use musicnicer )SD Movies HD Movies. If you want to add shortcuts to the Home or Favourites screen then you also need. This also allows you to directly download firmware updates to the Dune rather than needing to do it on a PC and gives BluRay storage for things like BD-Live etc.If Zappiti is on the internal HDD but you have media elsewhere, ie on your PC etc then you need to set the Absolute Path in Zappiti for the PC shares.Folder structure is not required, but IMO it just makes life a lot easier if you do it well. The structure you list looks fine to me.Mark.
Follow the link I posted about system storage and that will tell you how to set it up - you could even use a USB Flash Drive for it rather than the HDD if that makes life easier. As for the use of the HDD from other PC's - it only needs to be formatted to NTFS if the HDD is going to be directly connected to the PC by SATA or USB. If you only need to copy files to it across the network then EXT3 will still be usable by the PC's.If you do format the HDD on the PC then just use the utility built into Windows - no need to install any other apps to do this IMO.Mark. How to configure System Storage on HDD partitionWhen there is an HDD permanently installed in / connected to the player, it is possible to configure System Storage on a small dedicated partition of this HDD. I.e., the HDD is split into two partitions, the first one (e.g. 2GB) is used as the System Storage, and the second one (all the remaining space) is used in the usual way.If you already have an HDD already properly partitioned into two partitions (e.g. Using a PC), you just need to ensure that the first HDD partition is empty, and the second HDD partition is not empty, and then initialize System Storage exactly in the same way as when using USB flash drive.
The system will recognize the small empty HDD partition and propose to initialize it as the System Storage. If you have an empty HDD w/o partitions, you can partition this HDD into two partitions on Dune. Starting with firmware version 1beta, this is possible using the 'Setup / Misc / System Storage / Initialize System Storage' function: when the player detects an empty 100GB+ HDD, it proposes to partition it into two partitions and initialize the first partition (2GB) as the System Storage. In the previous firmware versions, you can use a special DSF service file to do this (see below). How to configure System StorageThe easiest way to configure System Storage is to attach an empty USB flash drive (1GB+) to the player and just perform firmware update (e.g.
Reinstall the currently installed firmware version). Firmware update can be performed, in particular, using the built-in online firmware update mechanism ('Setup / Misc / Firmware Upgrade'). During firmware update, the player will detect the empty USB flash drive and will propose to initialize it as the System Storage.Starting with firmware version 1beta, it is also possible to configure System Storage via 'Setup / Misc / System Storage / Initialize System Storage' function. Again, you need to attach an empty USB flash drive to the player, the player will recognize it and propose to initialize it as the System Storage.
. External NAS Support: Access files on any external storage devices (HDD, optical drive, etc) attached to the player from the local network (using SMB or FTP). Customizable User Interface: Work with media collections using cover art and icon browsing (supports Full HD graphics). Flash Applications: Extend player functionality with FlashLite applications.
